In the production of powder coatings, particle size control is a key technology, which is directly related to the quality and performance of the coating. For special purpose powder coatings such as insulating powder, the consistency of particle size is particularly important. In order to obtain a powder with a more concentrated particle size distribution, it is recommended to use a double separation mill for processing. This mill can effectively reduce the particle size span, while removing most of the micro-powder with a diameter of less than 10 m, ensuring that the content of micro-powder in the final product does not exceed 0.1, avoiding the blockage of the fluidized bed during the dip coating process, thus making the coating more uniform and improving the coating quality.
It should be emphasized that because the insulating powder usually contains silicides, it not only increases the possibility of wear on the production equipment, but also may cause the metal content to exceed the standard. In order to solve this problem, Yantai Wanheng suggested that materials with high wear resistance, such as 6542 steel or tungsten carbide treated materials, should be used in the manufacture of screw elements, gear rings, grinding discs, striking columns and other key components. These materials can not only withstand the wear challenges brought by silicides, but also extend the service life of equipment, ensure the continuity of production and the stability of powder coatings.
In addition, the performance of the extruder also plays a key role in the quality of the powder coating. Li Zong, head of Yantai Wanheng, disclosed to the paint purchasing network that the key components of the extruder, including screw barrel, screw accuracy, clearance fit, operating speed, material, self-cleaning ability and screw arrangement, are all important factors affecting the quality of powder paint. Aiming at the production of low temperature curing powder coatings, Li specifically pointed out some challenges. Because the resin softening point and curing temperature of this kind of coating are low, the reaction speed is fast, the traditional extruder heating plate is difficult to achieve uniform temperature distribution. When the screw is operated at high speed, the generation of local friction may cause coking of the powder particles.
In order to overcome these problems, Yantai Wanheng designed a low-temperature curing twin-screw extruder with a length-to-diameter ratio of about 11D, which can reduce the reaction time of the material. Its screw speed is 200-300 rpm, and there is no heating plate. The necessary heat is generated through the friction between the screw and the material, so that the material produces a physical reaction. The ratio of screw top diameter to root diameter is about 1.43, which increases the surface area of the screw and improves the dispersion ability per unit length. In addition, the screw extends from the gear box to the front end, and is cooled by cooling water, which accurately and effectively controls the temperature of the material to ensure the stability of the production process and the high quality of the powder coating.
